The curtain came down on the 2026 Western Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two Games on Saturday with thrilling finals producing champions across football, volleyball and rugby sevens as schools booked places at the national championships.
Kakamega High School were crowned the Western Region boys’ football champions after defeating rivals Musingu High School 2-0 after extra time in a closely contested final.
The victory capped an impressive campaign for the Kakamega County side and secured their place at the national games.
In the girls’ football final, Arch Bishop Njenga Girls edged Butere Girls 2-1 in an entertaining encounter at Kanduyi Stadium to claim the regional title and qualify for the national championships.
Bokoli makes history
History was made in the boys’ rugby sevens competition after Bokoli Boys High School defeated Butula Boys 14-0 to lift the Western Region title.
The victory earned the Bungoma County school its first-ever qualification for the KSSSA National Games in rugby sevens since the discipline was introduced.
In the girls’ rugby sevens final, Mbakalo Girls produced a commanding performance to defeat Kimobo Girls 24-7 at Bungoma High School.
Despite the defeat, Kimobo Girls also qualified for the national championships.
Malava Boys claimed the Western Region boys’ volleyball title after defeating Chesamisi Boys 3-0 in straight sets.
In the girls’ competition, St. Mathias Mwitoti Girls Senior School from Mumias stunned former regional champions Lugulu Girls Senior School with an impressive 3-0 victory to lift the regional crown.
The championships highlighted the growing competitiveness of school sports in Western Kenya, with several emerging schools challenging and defeating traditional powerhouses.

Regional champions and finalists have now shifted their focus to the KSSSA National Term Two Games, where they will compete against the country’s best schools for national honours.
