West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin. He has given 25 million shillings worth of porridge to all ECDE centres in the county.

It is a huge boost to learning in West Pokot as the county government distributes fortified porridge flour worth Ksh25 million to all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres.

Governor Simon Kachapin, speaking when he flagged off the 113,650 kilos of the flour at his office in Kapenguria town today, said the move is aimed at promoting early childhood education and catering to the nutritional requirements of ECDE learners.

‘‘School feeding programmes help to encourage learners to stay in school and ultimately improve retention and transition rates, in addition to nutrition across the county. These programmes not only support their physical health but also enhance their ability to focus and learn in school,’’ he said.

He further lauded the national government for restoring financial support to the school feeding programme, highlighting it as a significant acknowledgment by the government in its dedication to assisting vulnerable communities, particularly those impacted by the detrimental consequences of climate change.

‘‘Having access to healthy meals can help remove obstacles to education in regions impacted by climate change, ultimately boosting the chances of students remaining enrolled and actively participating in their studies,’’ he noted.

Kachapin urged the Education CECM (County Executive Committee Member) and other stakeholders to ensure the efficient distribution of the flour throughout the county for the programme to succeed.

The CECM Rebecca Kide lauded the governor for prioritizing early childhood education through initiatives such as the school feeding programme.
