UoN third-year student fatally stabbed in hostel disagreement

A University of Nairobi third-year student, Brian Wambui, has died after being fatally stabbed by his roommate during a quarrel over toilet use and cleaning at their Kikuyu hostel.

According to witnesses, the disagreement escalated when the two argued over who should flush and clean the hostel toilet, drawing in friends of the deceased.

Omondi Ogola, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kikuyu, confirmed the incident and called for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in such conflicts.

“The preliminary report indicates the cause of the quarrel was a disagreement over the ablution block. The situation worsened when friends of the deceased joined in, prompting the suspect to arm himself,” said Ogola.

Wambui succumbed to the stab wounds, and his body was taken to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The suspect, identified as Justus Otieno, is being held at Kikuyu Police Station pending investigations and arraignment.
