UON joins World Endometriosis Society’s board

A distinguished faculty member from the University of Nairobi’s (UON) Biochemistry Department, Dr. Ezekiel Onyonka Mecha, has secured a position on the board of the World Endometriosis Society.

Notably, Dr. Mecha stands as the inaugural African representative on the board.

Marking a significant milestone, Dr. Mecha’s appointment to the Global Liaison Committee for a two-year term (2023-2025) underscores his dedication and expertise in advancing awareness and research on endometriosis, as highlighted by the World Endometriosis Society.

In his capacity as a senior lecturer, Dr. Mecha also serves as the director of Endometriosis East Africa—an organization committed to fostering awareness campaigns and advancements in comprehending endometriosis and associated uterine disorders.

Specializing in the identification of diagnostic biomarkers through metabolomics, Dr. Mecha’s research notably delves into the roles of Transforming Growth Factor betas/receptors superfamily molecules in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Mecha has assumed the role of associate editor for the ‘Journal of Reproduction and Fertility’ since May 2021, showcasing his multifaceted contributions to academia.

His tenure at the University of Nairobi spans several years, reflecting a rich history of teaching and research.
