Umma University, the largest private Islamic institution of higher learning in Kenya is set to offer interest free loans and scholarships to its students.
Dubbed Umma University Students Support Programme, it provides financial aid to needy students.
Speaking in Nairobi when she launched the programme, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed hailed the initiative saying it will benefit needy Muslim students.
“This is a programme of its kind geared to benefit hardworking Muslim students and hopefully will be of benefit to the Muslim community,’’ she said.
The event was attended by MPs and other leaders from vast Northeastern region including Chancellor Abass Guleid.
Guleid said the programme will provide full scholarships and interest free study loans.
