TSC sacks 154 JSS intern teachers in Kericho County

Kericho County has the highest number Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers who have faced the wrath of Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in the on-going termination of the intern teachers by the Commission.

In the statistics seen by Education News, Kericho has a total of 154 intern teachers who have been axed by TSC in the process that kicked off on Monday, June 10, 2024.

In Kwale County, only 11 JSS teachers have been sacked, with counties like Bomet, Narok, Uasin Gishu County having zero teachers to have been handed with termination letters.

In the list of sacked teachers from Kwale County revealed by credible sources to Education News, the 11 teachers who were sacked have been replaced by the Commission with new teachers in bid to ensure that learners don’t go without learning due to lack of teachers.

Among the schools affected in Kwale County includes Kifyonzo, Chirima, Jitegemee, Mbilini, Mzizima, Kikonde, Mlungunipa, Bilashaka, Maiyini, Ndo hivyo, and Fuleye Junior Secondary School.

TSC on Monday started serving the JSS teachers with termination of internship contracts just few days after they announced that they have halted their demos to what the commission termed as professional misconduct by the intern teachers who had taken to streets to lament poor pay and conversion of their contracts to Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) terms.

“Reference is made to the show cause letter in which you were accorded an opportunity to explain the reasons why your engagement as an intern should not be terminated on account of professional misconduct,

“The Commission has carefully considered your response and found the same to be unsatisfactory,” TSC wrote in letters served to terminated intern teachers.

So far more than 700 JSS teachers have been sacked by TSC.
