The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been allocated KSh 424.3 billion in the 2026/27 financial year, making it the single largest beneficiary within the education sector.
The allocation forms part of the government’s broader KSh 784.5 billion investment in education and comes as the country continues implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum and expanding access to basic education.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi said the government remains committed to strengthening teaching capacity and improving learning outcomes.
Over the last three years, the government says it has recruited 100,000 teachers to support curriculum delivery and reduce staffing shortages in schools.
The latest allocation will primarily support teacher salaries, administration of the teaching service and implementation of ongoing education reforms.
The funding also comes amid growing pressure from education stakeholders who have called for more teachers, particularly in junior secondary schools where demand has increased following the transition to CBC.

Treasury notes that education remains one of the government’s top priorities because of its role in producing skilled manpower and supporting economic growth.
“Kenya’s future depends on developing strong human capital,” Mbadi told Parliament.
The TSC allocation represents more than half of the total education budget and reaffirms the government’s focus on teacher employment and classroom instruction.
