TSC gives fresh details on 54,016 teacher recruitment and promotion vacancies

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has provided further details on its latest teacher recruitment and promotion exercise, covering thousands of positions across primary and post-primary institutions.

The clarification comes after the Commission announced a total of 54,016 vacancies, comprising both new recruitment opportunities and promotion positions for serving teachers.

Of the vacancies, 34,016 positions have been set aside for promotions, offering career progression opportunities for teachers who meet the required qualifications and experience. The 34,016 figure is reported for the current promotion exercise.

The promotion exercise includes 13,490 positions for Senior Teacher II, 5,956 posts for Senior Master IV and 4,210 vacancies for Senior Teacher I. These three figures correspond with the advertised cadres.

The Commission has also announced the recruitment of 20,000 post-primary teachers as part of efforts to strengthen staffing in Junior Schools and facilitate the implementation of Competency-Based Education.

The recruitment and promotion exercises are expected to address staffing gaps while providing serving teachers with opportunities to advance through the career structure.

The latest vacancies come amid the ongoing transition in Kenya’s education system, which has increased demand for teachers at different levels as schools continue implementing Competency-Based Education and its senior school pathways.

TSC has urged eligible teachers and applicants to follow the stipulated requirements and timelines when submitting their applications.
