TSC corrects error that mixed up pay for grades C4 and C5 in recent promotions

TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia. The commission has corrected an error in the salaries of Grade C4 and C5 that swapped the increment in recent promotions.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has corrected a mix up in salary point for teachers who were promoted from Grade C4 to C5 recently, clarifying that the entry point for C5 is Ksh64,770.

This is going to be effective next month, the teachers benefitting being among those 36,504 who were recently promoted.

According to an internal memo dated August 23, 2024, the commission admitted that some teachers on Grade C4 were disadvantaged after being promoted from Grade C4 to C5, which largely affected those who had earned an annual increment on Grade C4 before the promotions were effected on the payroll.

The commission noted that the award of annual increment under C4 salary points was higher than the entry point under Grade C5; that is, Ksh64,527 and Ksh62,272 respectively.

The commission has therefore instructed all its unit heads in the human resource management and development directorate to make the corrections and provide the report on the exercise by September 20, 2024.

“To address this discrepancy, the Commission has authorised an amendment of the salary entry points for the affected teachers to Ksh64,770 per month. Those teachers will however adopt incremental months as per the existing policy (month of promotion),” read the memo.
