A 12-year-old boy was on Thursday evening electrocuted while grazing animals at Got Kokech Village in Homa Bay County.
The deceased, identified as Brighton Eddy, a Grade Four pupil at Got Kokech Comprehensive School, was herding his family’s livestock within the school compound when he accidentally touched a live earth wire from an electric pole and died instantly.
According to headteacher Elly Kisulu, the boy had been sent by his father to graze the animals but opted to take them to the school grounds, unaware of the danger lurking there.
The body was taken to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Kothidha North Sub-Location Assistant Chief Paul Onyango urged parents to closely monitor their children during the long holiday to prevent similar accidents.
