Thieves steal electronics, cash from secondary school in Machakos

Katani Secondary School in Mavoko Sub-county, Machakos, experienced a night of terror as thieves armed with crude weapons stormed the institution.

According to a police report seen by Education News the incident was reported by the school principal.

The assailants broke into the offices of the Principal, deputy Principal, bursar, director of studies, exam office, and the secretary stealing KSh49,000 in cash, a laptop, the school’s phone, and assorted calculators.

“It was reported by Principal Katani Secondary School that he had an incident of school breaking. Police responded to the scene and it was established that today 23/05/2024 at about 2.30am, five robbers armed with crude weapons gained entry into school through the main gate and broke into bursary, Principal, Deputy principal, director of study, exams and secretary offices,” reads the report in part.

In addition to these items, the thieves also took another laptop and KSh8,000 in cash, bringing the total value of the stolen goods to Sh 117,000.

At the time of the robbery the school watchman was at the dormitory area.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the capture of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen property.
