Retired Secondary School Principals of Kenya (RESSPAK) Makueni County Coordinator Julius Mutwii has assured teachers still in active service that there is fulfilling life after retirement, saying retired educators continue to socialize and contribute to nation-building.
Speaking during a retreat in Zanzibar, Mutwii said retirement offers an opportunity for former principals to relax, unwind and exchange ideas after many years of demanding service in the education sector.

“You see, like now we are in a retreat in Zanzibar winding up. The years we served, our daily activities and the like require time to relax, unwind and enjoy life as we continue building each other through the exchange of ideas,” said Mutwii, who retired last year.
Mutwii, a former Makueni County KESSHA chairman who served as a principal for many years, emphasized the importance of preparing adequately for retirement to avoid mental health challenges and depression that may arise from lack of planning.

“Our association is registered and well structured, with branches at the county level. Those retiring can join us because we do a lot in building and supporting each other,” he said.
He encouraged teachers still in service to remain committed to their profession for the benefit of learners, while also planning for life after employment.
“It is always good to retire when you still have some energy left to begin a new life out there. Teach with passion, give your best and exit gracefully when the time comes,” said Mutwii.
He also urged teachers to invest while still in service to secure financial stability during retirement.
“Invest as you continue serving so that you can have that extra coin even beyond your years in service,” he added.
