Tenwek High School has been disqualified from the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Games after officials found that some of the team’s players did not meet eligibility requirements.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the school confirmed that investigations established that three players were over the age limit by three months, while two others had conflicting KCPE registration credentials, leading to the team’s removal from the national football championships scheduled to be held at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
The school described the development as unfortunate and appealed to its supporters to remain calm despite the setback.
“It is unfortunate that Tenwek High School team has been disqualified from the national competitions at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika. It was found out that three of our students were overaged by three months and that two players had conflicting KCPE credentials,” the statement read.
Tenwek urged its fans, alumni, parents and the wider school community to continue upholding the culture of excellence that has defined the institution since its establishment in 1961.
“We urge our fans across the divide to be calm and continue the spirit of excellence that has been associated with our school since 1961,” the school added.
The administration also confirmed that similar communication had been shared with all stakeholders, including the school’s Alumni Association, to explain the circumstances surrounding the disqualification.
Following Tenwek’s exit from the competition, Menengai High School will now represent the Rift Valley region at the national championships in Thika.

The school wished Menengai success in the tournament, expressing confidence that they would represent the region with distinction.
“We wish Menengai High School the best of luck as they represent our region in the national competitions,” the statement said.
Despite the disappointment, Tenwek concluded its message on a hopeful note, reaffirming its faith and resilience with the words: “We trust in God.”
The disqualification marks a significant setback for the football giants, who had been among the region’s strongest contenders heading into this year’s KSSSA National Games after an impressive campaign during the Rift Valley championships.
School sports officials continue to emphasise strict adherence to age and registration regulations to safeguard fairness and integrity in school competitions.
