A recent report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) highlights a disturbing rise in teen pregnancies across the country, with cases increasing from 224,333 in 2025 to 235,938 in 2026.
Released in April 2026, the Economic Survey 2026 reveals that Nairobi County tops the list with 14,291 reported cases, marking the highest number of adolescent pregnancies in the country.
The capital’s figures reflect the growing pressure on urban social structures and reproductive health services, which continue to grapple with rising demand for care.
Trailing Nairobi is Kakamega County, which recorded 11,835 cases, while Narok and Bungoma counties each surpassed the 10,000 mark, with 10,934 and 10,444 cases, respectively. These four counties have emerged as the primary hotspots for teenage motherhood, contributing significantly to the national tally.

Other counties featuring prominently in the top ten include Migori, with 8,667 cases, and Kajiado, with 8,296. Nakuru and Meru also saw concerning figures, reporting 8,214 and 8,115 cases, respectively. This indicates that the crisis is not confined to a specific region, as the figures span across Central, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.
Rounding out the top ten are Homa Bay with 7,846 cases and West Pokot with 7,696, underscoring that the teenage pregnancy crisis is a national issue affecting various parts of the country.
The latest statistics represent a worrying trend for Kenya’s health and social sectors, as more than 11,000 additional girls between the ages of 10 and 19 entered the maternal healthcare system in 2026 compared to the previous year.
The report calls attention to the urgent need for targeted interventions in reproductive health services, particularly in the most affected regions, to address the growing concerns around teenage pregnancies and their impact on the lives of young girls in Kenya.
