Teachers across Kenya are set to benefit from a free professional development opportunity following the announcement of an upcoming online training session focused on the Microsoft Certified Educator programme and modern classroom competencies.

The organisers say the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) now recognises the Microsoft Certified Educator certificate as part of professional growth and continuous development for teachers, a move expected to strengthen digital skills and improve classroom delivery in line with 21st-century learning demands.

The virtual training session is scheduled for this Wednesday and will run from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EAT) via Microsoft Teams, and is designed to guide teachers step by step through key areas including Microsoft Elevate – General, Microsoft Elevate – Artificial Intelligence and 21st Century Learning Design (21CLD).

The programme is structured to be simple, practical, and self-paced, allowing educators to build digital competence from anywhere.

According to the organisers, the initiative is being led by STEAMLabs Africa in partnership with Microsoft, Canva Education, and government stakeholders in the education sector.

They note that the training is officially aligned with teacher professional development goals and is meant to equip educators with relevant skills for modern and technology-driven classrooms.

Teachers interested in joining are encouraged to register through a WhatsApp group where the meeting link and full instructions will be shared ahead of the session.

Educators are also being urged to share the opportunity widely with colleagues who may benefit from the training.

The programme is expected to enhance teachers’ capacity in digital learning tools, artificial intelligence in education and modern instructional design, supporting ongoing efforts to integrate technology into teaching and learning across Kenyan schools.
