A teacher based in Nairobi has been charged with assault after allegedly attacking a nine-year-old girl and later assaulting the child’s mother during a confrontation in Dandora, Embakasi Sub-county.

The accused, Terresia Wanjiru, 36, appeared in court over an incident said to have occurred on January 10 in Dandora Phase 5, where she is accused of physically assaulting the minor following a disagreement involving children at play.

According to court records, the incident began when children were playing outside and the minor accidentally injured Wanjiru’s child. Prosecutors told the court that Wanjiru allegedly confronted the girl in anger and assaulted her, leaving her with visible injuries.

Later that evening, the child’s mother returned home from work and found her daughter crying and injured. She proceeded to Wanjiru’s residence to seek an explanation, but the situation reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. The prosecution alleges that Wanjiru also assaulted the mother, causing her injuries.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Wanjiru’s arrest and subsequent arraignment in court.

During mitigation, Wanjiru’s lawyer urged the court to grant lenient bail terms, stating that she is a single mother and the sole caregiver to her three children.

The court released Wanjiru on a Ksh20,000 cash bail, pending further proceedings. The case is scheduled for mention on July 10.
