St. Peter’s Elukhari Mixed Senior School in Butula Sub-county, Busia County, is in mourning following the death of its principal, John Okello, who passed away while in active service.
His death has been described as a major blow to the school fraternity, teaching staff, students and the wider education community in the region.
Okello had been serving as the head of the institution, where he was credited with strengthening academic discipline, improving performance and fostering a culture of unity and hard work among learners and staff. Colleagues and education stakeholders within Butula Sub-county widely appreciated his leadership.
News of his passing has been met with shock and deep sorrow, with many describing him as a dedicated and passionate educator who committed his life to shaping young minds.
Teachers at the institution have remembered him as a firm but approachable leader who always prioritised the welfare of both staff and students.

Students at the school are also said to be devastated by the loss, with the school administration offering counselling and emotional support as they come to terms with the tragedy.
Education stakeholders in Busia County have sent their condolences to the family, friends and the entire St. Peter’s Elukhari school community, terming his death a significant loss to the teaching profession.
Arrangements for his burial are expected to be announced by the family in consultation with the school and education authorities.
