The education fraternity in Trans Nzoia is mourning the death of Rev. Gabriel Nabusoba Wataka, a distinguished teacher, school administrator and church leader whose decades of service left a lasting impact on learners, colleagues and the wider community.
Rev. Wataka served as Deputy Principal of Kabuyefwe Boys High School in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County. Before taking up the leadership role, he spent many years at St Brigid’s Kiminini Girls National School, where he taught Christian Religious Education (CRE) and Geography. At St Brigid’s, he also served as Head of the Guidance and Counselling Department, where he played a key role in mentoring learners, offering emotional support and helping students navigate challenges during their formative years.
Former colleagues and students remember Rev. Wataka as a kind-hearted, disciplined and dedicated educator who placed great emphasis on academic excellence, character development and the welfare of learners. His contribution to St Brigid’s was also reflected in the school’s academic performance. In 2014, the institution posted the best mean score in CRE nationally, a milestone that remains part of his professional legacy.

He later progressed into educational administration, becoming Deputy Principal at Kabuyefwe Boys High School, where he continued to provide leadership, mentorship and guidance to teachers and students. Beyond education, Rev. Wataka was a committed minister with Reach Out Gospel Ministries, where he served the church and its congregation with faith and dedication.
His death has left a deep void in the education sector, the church and the wider Trans Nzoia community. Former students, colleagues, friends and relatives have continued to remember him for his humility, compassion, faith and commitment to transforming the lives of others. As the community mourns his passing, his legacy lives on through the many learners he taught, mentored and inspired throughout his career.
