Special learning institutions in Bondo Constituency, Siaya County, have for the first time benefited from education support under the Bondo NG-CDF bursary programme.
In the latest disbursement, special schools that had missed out on bursary allocations for more than 15 years received over Ksh1.8 million to support the education of hundreds of learners with special needs.
Among the beneficiaries, Fr. Ouderaa Special Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired received more than Ksh850,000, Niko Hauser Special School for the Visually Impaired got over Ksh500,000, while Maranda Special School also received more than Ksh500,000 alongside other special institutions.

Speaking during the issuance of Bondo NG-CDF bursaries at Goma Primary School, Bondo MP Dr Gideon Ochanda said the institutions had previously failed to benefit due to laxity by school administrators in submitting applications.
“As NG-CDF, we resolved to visit the special schools to establish why they were not applying for bursary support. We were shocked by the dire fee challenges facing learners with special needs, and we therefore resolved to offer substantial support to help them remain in school,” said Ochanda.
Following the intervention, the MP pledged continued support for special learning institutions across the constituency through the NG-CDF kitty.
In the wider bursary disbursement programme benefiting more than 19,000 learners in Bondo Constituency, the NG-CDF allocated bursary cheques worth Sh32 million to secondary schools. Of this amount, Sh23 million went to day secondary schools, while boarding schools received Sh9 million.
