As President Ruto continues to make appointments to different government departments, latest being the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS), former General Secretary of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Hon. Wilson Sossion is among the few who have been picked as the Education ministry gets three CASs.

Wilson Sossion has been appointed as CAS in the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage a docket where he will work hand in hand with Hon. Rehema Dida Jaldesa.

The Ministry of Education on the other hand has received three CAS appointees who includes; Mr. Elly Stephen Loldepe, Hon. Mark Lomunokol and Hon. Anab Mohamed Gure who will work hand in in hand to ensure the ministry thrive.

Sossion, a career teacher, made his name when he became the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General. A darling of many teachers, Sossion was later though, bundled out of the giant union following an insurgency fronted by the current team led by Collins Oyuu.

He later found his way into politics when the Orange Democratic Party led by Raila Odinga nominated him to parliament. He later fell out with the party and joined UDA led by the current president William Ruto.

During the campaigns, the outspoken Sossion was all over media houses doing debates and drumming support for his newfound party. Many had speculated earlier that he would be appointed either Cabinet Secretary or Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education or Labour owing to his huge experience in both sectors.

He was however bypassed by the appointing authorities and the waiting continued. It would come as good news then that at least he has got something to take home.

The Public Service Commission had invited suitable applications for the position of CAS through print media and the PSC website out of which a total of 5,183 made applications by the end of the deadline which was on 13th October, 2022. Only 224 applicants were shortlisted but 50 were appointed.

The appointees’ names have been transmitted to the National Assembly by President William Ruto for consideration and approval by the parliament in accordance with the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (NO.33 of 2011)
