Sorrow as two female teachers perish in road accident in Migori

Five people including two female teachers were killed in horrific accident. Dorcas Nyamohanga and Lucy Chakala were the teachers who died following the incident on Sunday night, January 19.

They lost their lives after overloaded lorry lost control and hit two motorbikes, one of which had carried them.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Madam Dorcas and Madam Lucy Chakala following a tragic road accident. Very lovely and friendly people. People who stood for progress. People who were passionate about seeing the young generation advance in acquiring knowledge and above all, dedicated family women. These two death continue to cause agonising pain to all people of Mabera and beyond,” a Facebook user Ann Matinde eulogised them.
The lorry was moving at high speed.

An eye witnesses was quoted as saying the lorry moving at high speed lost control and hit the two motorbikes at Nyamekoma bridge, along Isebania-Migori road resulting in the immediate death of the five at round 7.55pm.

Reuben Bett, Kuria West Sub County police commander said two riders and three pillion passengers died on the spot while the driver of the lorry sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized.

The bodies were transferred to a nearby hospital for examination and  identification.
