The 2026 Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) elections displayed a unique wave, as the power of female teachers in the union became a reality after the conclusion of KNUT West Pokot Branch elections held on February 7, 2026.
During the heated campaigns, many female teachers were very active and at the forefront campaigning for their preferred candidates either female or male unlike before when many took a back seat.
2026 seem to be a new beginning for female teachers in KNUT elections because of their active participation before, during and after the election.
During the voting day many female teachers were very patient on long queues under the hot scorching sun waiting to exercise their democratic rights through voting. And as the votes were being counted they were eagerly waiting for the results of their preferred candidates.
Finally, when the results were announced, the large magnitude of crowd made up of female teachers, was evident because of their sharp voices through cheering and ululations.

As the new Executive Secretary Dorcas Cheyech Lotome was making her maiden speech after she was declared the winner, more ululations and cheering rent the air of Makutano Primary school the venue of KNUT Elections.
The climax of it all came when elected leaders were being escorted out of the venue; it was the female teachers who were leading the entourage with songs and dance going round Makutano town in jubilation.
To crown it all, the power of female teachers was clearly evident on the high number of female elected leaders as follows:
Executive Secretary: Dorcas Cheyech Lotome, Vice Chairperson: Christine Ibrahim, Treasurer: Christine Kasheusheu,Vice treasurer: Veronica Lopoyetum, and Woman Representative: Fridah Arusho.
In addition, there are six elected BEC female representatives from the six sub counties of the West Pokot County.
