Sigalagala National Poly students asked to stay in touch with their culture

The youths should embrace culture because it is the essence of our identity, given that they are the torch-bearers for posterity. The deputy principal for administration at Sigalagala National Polytechnic in Kakamega Ann Mutsami has said.

“All cultures are valuable in the sense that they enrich our lives, broaden our perspective and foster our understanding,” she remarked.

She elaborated culture as an entity is the reason why there is unity in diversity both at the college and elsewhere. She called upon students to preserve and cherish it.

She was speaking on Friday June 7 at the college ground during the celebrations of the Culture Day in the institution.

The event was characterised with pomp and colour that saw large crowds of students and members of the public attend.

The administration deputy principal told students that they were in the spotlight to “respect and tolerate other’s customs and beliefs whether they differed with theirs because tolerance is a cornerstone of harmonious society which ought to be celebrated”.

She noted that the institution comprise students from different backgrounds which represent different cultures hence a complex of customs and traditions at the college.

She advised students to be brave in cultural activities which will earn them a budge of honour that is worth safeguarding.

A male hair-dressing student, one Brian pausing as a female model stole the show during the event. He drove the crowds into frenzy amid ululations, cheers and cries for more styles from him. Other areas covered included dances, music, fashion show, eating competition and others.
