The Shilalyo community in Kakamega County is in mourning following the sudden death of Jackline Khati, a dedicated teacher from Shilalyo Primary School whose passing has shocked colleagues, learners, and residents.
Khati, who had recently completed her degree studies, had been promoted to the Junior School where she was set to teach English Literature.
She was also widely known for her passion and commitment as a drama instructor, nurturing creativity and confidence among learners and guiding the school in various co-curricular activities.
According to staff at Shilalyo Primary School, Khati had not yet taken up her new role in the Junior School, but her promotion was celebrated across the school community.
Many described her as a hardworking, warm, and inspirational educator whose dedication left a lasting mark on both pupils and fellow teachers.

Her sudden passing on sent shockwaves through the school, with teachers saying they had lost not only a colleague but also a mentor and a dependable team member.
“It is a huge loss for us. Jackline was talented, committed, and deeply loved by her learners,” a teacher at the school said.
He added:“We were looking forward to seeing her excel in her new role.”
Parents and community members also expressed their grief, noting that her contribution to academics and the drama club had played a key role in shaping the talents and confidence of many children at the school.
Education stakeholders in the area have sent messages of condolence to her family, describing her as a rising young educator whose career had just begun to flourish.
Khati is remembered for her humility, passion for teaching, and unwavering dedication to her pupils.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
