Several teams across the Nyanza region have been disqualified following the implementation of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association’s student portal system.
In Kisumu County, Onjiko Boys High School, who had defeated defending champions Kisumu Day in a semifinal at Moi Stadium, were banned for three years from all KSSSA games.

An investigation revealed they had fielded six ineligible players, including one who had already completed secondary school.
The Kisumu County Director of Education, Rosemary Birenge, confirmed the ruling in a letter dated June 24, 2025.
“Your School Football Team has been banned from participating in the KSSSA Games for a period of three (3) years,” the letter reads.

In Siaya County, Maranda High School was denied the opportunity to participate at the county level because it failed to submit player data into the portal.
