South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) has unveiled a special housing plan to support students preparing for supplementary and special examinations in the 2025/2026 academic year. The initiative, announced by the Office of the Academic Registrar, is designed to ease logistical challenges for learners travelling from different campuses and locations to sit their papers at the main campus.
According to the internal memo signed by Academic Registrar Prof. Peter Njuru, the examinations will run from August 10 to August 21, 2026. To ensure students have access to convenient and affordable housing, SEKU will provide accommodation in its halls of residence at a flat rate of Sh550 for the entire examination period.
The arrangement allows students to check into the hostels from Sunday, August 9, 2026, one day before the start of the examinations. Interested candidates have been directed to make payments through the university’s Finance Office, with the Finance Officer tasked to oversee smooth coordination of the accommodation plan.
Copies of the communication were circulated to senior university officials, including the Deputy Vice‑Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation), Director of Finance and Administration, Dean of Students, Directors of Campuses, Director of ICT, Head of Admissions, and the Secretary General of the SEKU Students’ Association. This broad dissemination underscores the institution’s commitment to ensuring seamless implementation of the plan.

The university noted that the initiative is intended to relieve students of the burden of seeking private accommodation away from campus, enabling them to focus fully on their examinations. By offering affordable housing, SEKU aims to create a supportive environment that promotes academic success while reducing financial strain on learners.
The supplementary and special examinations form a critical part of the academic calendar, providing candidates who missed or did not complete their assessments an opportunity to fulfil course requirements. The housing plan is therefore expected to play a key role in ensuring that all students can participate without unnecessary disruption.
University administrators expressed confidence that the initiative will not only benefit students but also strengthen SEKU’s reputation as a student‑centred institution committed to academic excellence and welfare.
