Schools in Narok asked to exercise high level of hygiene as cholera outbreak creeps in

Head of schools in Transmara West and South Sub counties in Narok have been encouraged to observe a thorough hygiene conditions in their school in order to prevent any further continuation Cholera among learners as it is a contagious disease.

Speaking at Kilgoris town today on 7th October, 2025, Narok County Chief officer for Preventive Health Services Lucy Kashu confirmed the outbreak of the disease that claimed 5 people among them two baby class school children.

“I appeal to all teachers in our schools and other social like those in churches to encourage our children to wash their hands frequently especially immediate before a and after visiting toilets and other washrooms.” She said.

She said that 34 victims of the disease had been identified and were undergoing treatment.

Kashu also cautioned residents against drinking unboiled and untreated water in order to avoid the extension of Chlolera outbreak in the region.

She singled out Kilgoris Central ,Lorigorian and Shankoe wards as the main affected in the County and but assured the residents that health measures had been put in place to stop the disease from further attacks.

She said that Narok County Government has banned all open food vendors including those roasting maize on the road side in the effort to curb the extension of the disease.

The Chief Officer highlighted the main symptoms of Cholera that range from severe diarrhea, vomiting, dry rips due to dehydration, weakness of the body and sunken eyes

“If you see such signs in a patient please report the case to our health workers for intervention.” She said.

The officer asked the residents not to panic but cautioned against living crafter life.
