School in Nyamira closed indefinitely after three fire incidences

The Ministry of Education has closed down Riomego Boarding Primary School in Nyamira County indefinitely after three consecutive incidents of fire razed down three dormitories.

The first one broke out late last week completely destroying one dormitory then four hours later, another dormitory burst into flames and was razed to the ground before firefighters came to the rescue.

Three days later, a third fire broke out burning another, forcing more than 150 pupils to spend the night in the cold.

Parents with children at the school have asked the Police to urgently investigate the cause of the strange fires.

The Ministry noted that the closure will allow enough space and time for independent investigations into the fires that have led to the loss of property worth hundreds of thousands.

Headteacher Wilson Nyanta said that the cause of the fires was yet to be established, noting that none of the pupils nor staff were hurt during the infernos.

He appealed to well-wishers to assist in the reconstruction of the dormitories to enable quicker reopening of the school and continuation of studies.
