Bisanadi Primary School in Garbatula, Isiolo County is finally set to reopen after five-year hiatus brought about by insecurity as a result of conflict between two feuding communities.

Insecurity in the area caused residents to seek safe refuge, resulting in learners being pulled out of school. The sub county security team and the local elders worked meticulously to restore peace in the area.

Gradually, the peace initiatives led by the sub-county security team and local elders have yielded positive results. The previously conflicting communities now have embraced reconciliation, coexisting harmoniously, and participating in trade.

In preparation for the school’s reopening, scheduled for next Monday, the security team and education officials convened a meeting with the local community. The new head teacher and three new teachers, posted by the TSC, were introduced at the meeting.

The local community was asked to contribute land for building teachers’ quarters and to help identify three residents who could be recruited as untrained teachers before the reopening.

Stephen Nyakundi, the deputy county commissioner, stated that the government had assigned 11 police officers for security, but he expressed concern about the absence of land to construct a patrol base and housing for the officers.

“Offering land for the construction of police and teachers’ quarters will enhance learning and security in the area and promote development,” Nyakundi said.
