SAHI, a community based organisation has stepped up efforts to contain spread of cholera in areas prone to the diseases in Garissa.
An outbreak of the disease in the county recently killed 15 people.
Students at NEP Girls National School and Iftin Primary School were trained on good hygiene
SAHI CEO Abdi Mohamed said that the main aim of the awareness creation was to teach children how to observe hygiene to prevent spread of the disease.
‘’Our objective is to train the school children not only because they can be affected but can also educate their parents and neighbours who may not be aware of the right steps to take in case of an outbreak,’’ he said .
During the three day campaign, the children were urged to join health workers in creating awareness so as to eradicate any outbreak.
To check the spread of cholera, isolation centers have been set up in Sankuri, Mbalambala and Garissa General Hospital which are well equipped to handle the outbreak.
