Residents urged to maintain hygiene as cholera outbreak is reported in Migori County

Migori CECM in charge of education Betty Samburu has urged parents to restrain their children who are on holiday to avoid drinking untreated water.

This is following a reported cholera outbreak in Migori County.

Speaking to Education News, Mrs Samburu said her office was working with the Ministry of Health in ensuring that no street food vendors were selling food in the open until the disease is contained.

Migori County Director of Medical services Dan Ochier has urged residents to observe hygiene in order to evade the reported cholera disease outbreak.

He said five people were confirmed positive after they were taken to hospital.

The director who was flanked by Migori County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of health Julius Nyerere said the main area affected is the Macaldar mining area IN Nyatike Constituency.

The officers said those suspected of the disease were confined within isolated wards.

They added that a group of medics have been dispatched to the area to monitor the situation.
