- The commitment followed a request by Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron for a hall and dormitory.
- Ruto also used the Kisumu visit to highlight teacher recruitment and higher education funding reforms.
President William Ruto has pledged Sh10 million for Kisumu Day High School to support infrastructure development.
The Head of State, who was speaking during a church service at the Voice of Salvation and Healing (VOSH) Church in Kisumu, was responding to a request by Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron, who presented the school’s infrastructure needs.
Dr Oron said the school requires a multipurpose hall and an 800-capacity dormitory.
The President asked to be furnished with the school’s account details so that the funds could be channelled to the institution.
Oron said the learning institution is one of the oldest in Kisumu and has produced prominent people in society, yet some of its infrastructure remains in dire need of improvement.
Ruto highlights education gains
President Ruto also used the opportunity to explain gains his administration says it has made in the education sector.
He said his administration has hired about 100,000 teachers since taking office. The figure is consistent with earlier government statements on teacher recruitment.
Ruto said the higher education funding model had also been restructured, with more students expected to benefit as the new financing framework is implemented.
The government is currently pursuing a new universal tertiary funding framework that would cover eligible students in public universities, TVET institutions and KMTC.
Ruto urged critics to take stock of the gains made by his administration over the past four years.
He singled out lower inflation, management of the country’s debt portfolio and ongoing infrastructure projects across the country.

The Kisumu church service formed part of Ruto’s ongoing Nyanza development tour, which began in Kisumu before proceeding to other counties in the region.
