- Rift Valley region has topped the 2026 KJPSSA national championships, winning four titles and reaching five finals at Thika High School.
- Monire Junior School has defeated Nyabondo Junior School to win the boys’ football title, securing Kenya’s place at the East Africa Junior School Games in Tanzania.
- Nyanza and Western regions have also claimed national titles, with Nyanza finishing second overall and Western picking up three crowns.
Rift Valley region emerged as the dominant force at the 2026 Kenya Junior Primary Schools Sports Association (KJPSSA) national championships held at Thika High School, winning four national titles and reaching five finals in total to top the medal standings across the ball games.
The region’s champions were Monire Junior School (boys’ football), Bishop Muge Junior School (boys’ volleyball), Soin Junior School (girls’ volleyball) and Kissawai Junior School (boys’ netball). Rift Valley also reached the final of girls’ handball, where Nabunga Junior School settled for silver.
Monire Junior School, from Bomet County, capped an impressive campaign by defeating Nyabondo Junior School of Nyanza in the boys’ football final, a result that also books Kenya’s ticket to the East Africa Junior School Games in Tanzania.
Rift Valley’s strength was equally evident in volleyball, where Bishop Muge Junior School won the boys’ title while Soin Junior School lifted the girls’ crown, underlining the region’s traditional dominance in the sport.
Nyanza finished second overall on the medal table, picking up four national titles: Assar School (boys’ handball), The Shelter Academy (boys’ basketball), Magadi School (girls’ basketball) and Matagaro Junior School (girls’ netball). The region also produced runners-up finishes in boys’ football, boys’ volleyball and boys’ netball.

Western Region collected three titles, through Kakamega Hills Junior School (girls’ football) and Kimilili Junior School (girls’ handball), while St John BC finished runners-up in girls’ basketball. The region also secured a podium finish in girls’ volleyball.
Coast Region left the championships without a national title but with a runners-up finish in girls’ football, where Shika Adabu Junior School finished second behind Kakamega Hills Junior School of Western Region.

The championships showcased the growing competitiveness of junior school sports, with teams from across the country producing high-quality performances in football, volleyball, basketball, handball and netball. National champions have now earned the right to represent Kenya at the East Africa Junior School Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, where they will face the region’s best schools.
With four national trophies, several finalists and strong performances across disciplines, Rift Valley once again demonstrated why it remains one of Kenya’s leading nurseries for young sporting talent.
