Prof. Peter Kinyua Muriungi has been confirmed the new Vice-Chancellor of Tharaka University.

He has been the acting VC at the university which was initially Tharaka University college and a constituent college of Chuka University. The institution was later elevated to a fully chartered university and given a charter.

Prof Muriungi had worked at Chuka University as Director of Quality Assurance from where he was plucked to head the newly established Tharaka campus.
Recently, Public Service Commission (PSC) conducted interviews to identify the suitable candidate to take over as VC at the university. Muriungi was then appointed for the position after convincing the panel that he deserved the chance.

Prof. Muriungi started off his career as a teacher of English and Literature after graduating from UON in 1998.

He pursued his studies then at the Kikuyu Campus, the UON’s college that trains teachers.

He served for several years in the classroom under the Teachers Service Commission.

Due to his appetite for higher things, he took up his further studies which later plunged him into the world of academia.

Those who know Muriungi very well say he is equal for the task.

He is regarded as a meticulous character with a knack for immediate results.

Prof. Muriungi, a highly respected academic, was earlier plucked from Tharaka University College where he was the pioneer Principal.

The man, who has drafted several academic research papers, holds a Bachelor’s in Education (Arts) from the University of Nairobi, Master of Arts from With University and a PHD from Tromse University.
