Sheila Chelang’at zoomed past a strong field of athletes to clinch the top award of Ksh150,000 in the 10km Senior Women category during the 3rd Betika Kericho Cross Country race held in Kericho.
Chelang’at, a Police officer in Kericho county, took position one with a time of 33:18:95 and was followed hotly by Diana Chepkorir from Keringet, Nakuru county who managed a time of 33:32:81. She received a Ksh100,000 cheque.
The annual event held at the Kericho Teachers Training College (KTTC) saw Maureen Chepkoech from Kipchiloi Club in Nakuru clinch the third position with a time of 33:52:40 winning Ksh75,000.
In the highly competitive 10km Senior Men’s race, Vincent Kibet from Nakuru emerged the winner with a time of 30:04:52. He received a Ksh150,000 cheque.
He was followed closely by Nicholas Kipkorir who received Ksh100,000 while third was Mathew Kipkoech from Elgeyo Marakwet who clocked 30:10:52 and received Ksh75,000 reward.

Francis Kipkorir Lang’at also from Elgeyo Marakwet took fourth position with a time of 30:14:79 while fifth was Wesley Kipkemoi Yego from Nakuru with a time of 30:19:55. Cornelius Kemboi also from Elgeyo Marakwet was placed seventh with a time of 30:20:52.
The popular athletics event saw several athletes being awarded cash prizes in the race that had three categories, two of them divided into men and women. The first was the 10km senior race which saw men and women compete differently while the second was a mixed race and there was a Master’s race (50+) that included men and women.
A total of Ksh1.25 million was up for grabs in cash prizes in the various categories.
Position 4 took home Ksh50,000 while position 5 won Ksh40,000. Positions 6-10 won Ksh20,000 each. In the Master’s Race, the winners (both male and female) took home Ksh30,000, those in second position received Ksh20,000 and third position was awarded Ksh10,000.
