Police officer charged with murder after shooting university student in Trans Nzoia

A police officer, David Omondi, was charged with murder on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old university student Dolphine Mwangi.

The incident occurred on October 21, 2025, at Naree Trading Centre in Kiminini Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County.

Omondi, who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, allegedly confronted a group of students and questioned their presence at that hour.

When the students failed to respond, Omondi reportedly opened fire, shooting three times. One of the bullets struck Mwangi in the head. She was rushed to the hospital by a Good Samaritan but died from her injuries shortly after.

At his arraignment, Omondi denied the charge of murder. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 27, 2025, to decide whether he will be granted bail.
