Anti-riot police on Monday dispersed a planned protest by parents at Mwari RC Comprehensive School in Teso North after they attempted to demonstrate over alleged poor leadership and financial mismanagement at the institution.
Officers drawn from Aboloi Police Post under Malaba Police Station, led by Malaba Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Charles Juma, blocked parents carrying placards from accessing the school compound, saying the move was necessary to maintain law and order.
“We received information that some people were planning to demonstrate, so we came to ensure peace prevails,” said OCS Juma.
According to sources, some parents reportedly entered the school compound as early as 4:00 a.m., where they pinned written grievances on the school’s main gate and other strategic locations before police intervened.
In their complaints, the parents accused the school’s principal, Rosemary Isokat, of poor leadership and alleged financial irregularities.
They claimed that KSh904,000 was withdrawn from the school’s bank account on various dates between January 8 and April 28, 2026, and called for investigations into the transactions.
Parents further alleged that the principal uses abusive language, has strained relations with teachers and has failed to pay salaries for Board of Management-employed teachers and non-teaching staff, with some employees reportedly going without pay for more than four months.
Another concern raised was the alleged practice of sending learners home to collect school fees at around 2:00 p.m., shortly after they had returned from lunch.
“It disturbs us that the headteacher sends children home for school fees at 2:00 p.m. after they have just returned to school. This is unheard of,” one parent alleged.
The parents also claimed that despite donating maize and beans to support the school’s lunch programme, many learners continue to return home for meals, raising questions about the management of the feeding programme.
Investigations expected
The protest follows a similar demonstration staged by parents on October 1, 2025, over complaints against the same school administration.
When contacted for comment, Teso North Sub-County Director of Education Rose Sagara said it would be premature to respond before investigations are completed.
“My comment will be mere speculation until the issues are verified by the Quality Assurance and Standards (QAS) office and the Audit Department. We shall undertake assessment and investigations into the matter,” she said.

The allegations remain unverified, and education officials are expected to investigate the complaints before determining the appropriate course of action.
