He emphasized early engagement with learners’ concerns and the need to restore discipline, noting that several schools in Mwala Sub-county have recently been closed due to unrest.
Mwala Member of Parliament (MP) Vincent Musau has urged parents to take greater responsibility in guiding their children as concerns grow over increasing cases of student indiscipline and unrest in schools.
Speaking during a tour of several schools in Mwala Constituency, Musau expressed concern over recent disruptions that have affected learning, warning that failure to address underlying issues early is contributing to instability in schools.
He called for closer cooperation between parents, teachers and school administrators, stressing the importance of listening to students before their grievances escalate into major disruptions.
“It is either there is a problem with our upbringing or we are not listening to our children. It is important for schools to have suggestion boxes, like the one I have seen here at Bishop Ndingi School, because some of the small issues we ignore can eventually lead to serious damage, as witnessed in the recent Utumishi Girls incident,” Musau said.

While acknowledging the need for students to express themselves, the legislator emphasized that discipline must remain central in learning institutions.
“Students should not be allowed to do whatever they want whenever they want. As parents, there is a culture of discipline and responsibility that we must restore. If we allow our children to do as they please, then their future is doomed,” he added.
Several schools in Mwala Sub-county, including Kabaa Boys High School, Vyulya Girls High School and Ndoo Secondary School, have recently been affected by unrest and temporary closures.
