Parents call for probe over sudden closure of Nyamagwa Girls in Kisii

Parents of Nyamagwa Girls’ High School in Sameta Sub County have asked Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir’s office to move with speed and establish the cause of sudden closure of the school to avert any impending damage.

Speaking to Education News at Itumbe town, the parents expressed surprise concerning the note they received from the Principal to collect their children from the school as soon as possible.

“We are not sure about the safety of our children there and we request the director to arrange for emergence transportation by using the available school buses in the county to ferry some students who might be stranded at school to reach vantage areas to their homes.” He said

In a letter dated July 27, 2025, seen by Education News and signed by the Principal Hellen Nyaberi, which stated that the school expresses apology to parents for the sudden closure of the school due to was unnamed indiscipline cases from the learners.

“We as a school are very sorry for this sudden closure because we know you were not prepared” stated part of the note.

It further instructed parents that they will be required to accompany their daughters to school when it will reopened next month with the form four students to report on August 27, those in form three to on August 28 while those in form two will report on August 29 of the same month.

It is also reported that the school closed when they had invited guests to attend their cultural festival on July 30, and left many invited guests and staff in suspense.
