Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Julius Ogamba visited Cardinal Otunga Mosocho in Kisii County after it experienced a mysterious fire outbreak that gutted one of the dormitories.

Accompanied by Kisii County police commander and Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir, the CS castigated and cursed the incident in the strongest possible terms.

“I don’ t want to hear these fire narratives in schools because they disrupt smooth learning as they cause trauma to students, teachers and parents,” he said.

The CS asked Cardinal Otunga fraternity to remain calm and confident as they continued to pursue their academic excellence.

Academic giant

Saying that the institution is one of the oldest academic giants from the region, he appealed to all teachers, students and parents to cushion their school with love and guard it with jealousy against any outsider or insider who might contemplate to tarnish their good academic track record.

He asked the police to carry thorough investigation to establish the cause of the fire and bring the suspects to book.

According to the Senior Principal of the school Ezekiel Okeyo, the fire broke at around 6pm on Thursday as he led his staff to peruse the KCSE examination results. He added that they heard noise from the students and school workers who cried for rescue of the burning dormitory.

It was at that time when the villagers joined hands with students and teachers to fight the fire, but it overwhelmed them and consumed the whole dormitory destroying students’ property.
