Parents asked to take good care of their children during the August break

Nakuru County MP Liza Chelule, Njoro MP Charity Kathambi and Njoro Girls Principal Grace Kamau during the school's prize-giving event. The MPs asked parents to take care of their children during the August holidays.

Two legislators in Nakuru County have urged parents to take good care of their children during the August holidays, arguing that they have neglected them.

Nakuru County MP Liza Chelule and her Njoro counterpart Charity Kathambi told parents that it is their responsibility to ensure their children are safe and secure throughout the break.

The legislators decried the negligence by parents who leave their children in the hands of other people.

“It is the responsibility of all parents to take care of their school girls and boys. Don’t allow them to interact with strangers of questionable character. We must play our role as parents,” said Chelule.

She said the government is spending a lot of resources and time on curbing teenage pregnancy and drug and substance abuse among school children.

“It is during holiday that children misbehave because parents are too busy and forget to spend time with their children,” she said, encouraging parents to have role models that can be emulated by their children.

Kathambi said children should be taken to church so that they can be taught good morals and build their character in Godly ways, telling parents to encourage their children to express themselves freely.

They were speaking at Njoro Girls High School during the school’s prize-giving day.
