Parents in Matungulu Sub-county have been asked to keep a close watch of their children to minimize their loitering around markets and towns during the long December holidays.

Tala Ward MCA Jackson Ndaka said children risked falling into wrong company or becoming victims of crime when parents fail to monitor them.

“I am very concerned when children idle around in market centres and towns especially during school holidays, but I am calling on parents to stop them and be role models,” Ndaka said yesterday in Tala town after launching a youth talent show.

He also called on leaders to support youth talents so as to engage them and keep them away from risky behaviour such as drug abuse and premarital sex.

He noted that drug abuse among the youth had been a serious challenge not only in Machakos County but across the entire country.
