Students found loitering in towns will be arrested, parents warned

Students arrested by police. Parents in Baringo Central have been warned against allowing their children to loiter.

Students found loitering in Kabarnet town during the long holiday will be arrested, parents in Baringo Central sub-county have been warned.

Area Police boss Christine Kola noted that during holidays, the area records a high number of loitering minors, a trend she says will not be tolerated this time round.

Kola said that loitering exposes children to dangerous activities, some of which exposes them to various risks.

Speaking in Kabarnet town, she said that parents have a duty to protect their children, cautioning them against abdicating their roles.

“We will carry out patrols and children found loitering will be arrested. Police are usually blamed for doing their work, which should not be the case. This holiday is long and I want parents to do their parental roles as required to prevent irresponsible acts,” noted Kola.

Officer in Charge of the Kabarnet Prison Chesang Chelimo echoed the sentiments, decrying the high number of defilement convicts at the facility.

Chelimo, while revealing the various sentences served by the convicts, appealed for concerted efforts to tackle defilement, stating that local leaders have been silent on the matter despite its serious implications.

“Defilement convicts form the highest percentage of prisoners in Kabarnet. Sadly, leaders don’t speak about this matter. Defilement ruins the health and future of girls and we need concerted efforts to end this evil,” noted Chelimo.
