Parents and Tea farmers from Igare town in Bobasi Constituency are appealing to national government to redesign Igare- Rioma- Itumbe road to avoid many road accidents.

Speaking to Education News, they said that tracks ferrying tea to Itumbe- Rianyamwamu tea factories, experience a lot of problems as they negotiated the sharp corners to avoid hitting the pedestrians and motorcycle operators.

“Drivers get a lot of problems as they dodge tea farmers, pedestrians going to the tea buying centres and pupils to and from school.” They said.

The residents who were led by James Ongeri pointed Nyambunde corner as the main black spot that should be corrected before it worsens its frequent accidents.

They appealed to area MP Innocent Obiri to intervene and work urgently with relevant authorities to save more people from perishing, and farmers losing their produces in the road carnage.

The residents gave a chronological occurrence of road accidents at Nyambunde black spot since 2013.

They said that in 2013, a school bus overturned and killed 11 students and 4 passengers but since then, the government has not taken any step to alleviate the problem.

Again they narrated how the same spot claimed lives of 4 and 3 students in 2016 and in this year respectively.

They are asking the Ministry of Roads And Transport to consider erecting pumps or conspicuous road signs at the spot to caution motorists against carefree driving at the spot in order to reduce more deaths on the road meanwhile as the government think of long term solutions to end the menace.
