Outrage flare high in Bungoma after a nurse at a private facility allegedly raped a Form Three student admitted for wound dressing and malaria treatment.
According to the reports, raped patient is reported to be a form three student at Luuhya girls in Kabuchai Constituency.
The suspect, 30-year-old Martin Wekesa, who has reportedly acknowledged the incident with the facility’s management, was caught in the act by a colleague doing rounds in the wards on Friday night.
He quotes,” I Martin Wekesa, I write this letter to acknowledge that what I did yesternight was a mistake. Yesternight at 12 am I was found by the Clinician on duty and the caretaker while cuddling a patient while on duty. I acknowledge that this is a great mistake. I really regret and apologize for the mistake done promise that I won’t repeat this anywhere,”
The family of the victim, however, alleged a plot by the facility to cover up the incident, claiming the minor was forced to bathe after the act.

Addressing Journalists at Bungoma police station on Tuesday, Maurice Wanjala, father, condemned the hospital management for hiding evidence pertaining the rape incident that occurred in the hospital ward.
He added that his daughter was admitted at the facility on Friday after he complained of headache and joint pain.
“My daughter was admitted at the hospital on Friday after for treatment but I was shocked that a health provider was preying after my daughter,” Wanjala said.
Peninnah Wanjala, mother, said that the matter was reported at Bungoma police station where the suspect is being held.
Ms. Wanjala condemned the hospital management for allowing the victim to take a shower interfering with evidence.
She noted that the rape case was reported by a doctor at the same facility who advised us to report the matter to Bungoma police station.
Confirming the incident, William Letting Bungoma South Police Commander, admitted that the rape case was reported at Bungoma police station where a nurse is currently detained the station.
Letting said that the victim had been admitted at the facility to nurse wound injuries on the leg and malaria after the nurse took advantage and raped the victim.

He said that the victim reports to have been forced to have sex with the nurse inside the hospital wards.
The police boss said that the suspect is currently detained at Bungoma police station waiting to be arraigned in court.
Letting decried hiked numbers of defilement and rape cases in the region asking health care providers to be keen when attending to patients in the health facilities.
However, the hospital management admitted that the incident happened at their facility arguing that the two are apparently lovers and the girl faked symptoms to come and sleep with the nurse in the hospital.
It adds that after the management discovered they reported it to Bungoma police station.
“We have since sacked this nurse and reported him to his professional body,” stated the management.
