OUK, University of Hargeisa in talks over regional E-learning partnership

The Open University of Kenya (OUK) and the University of Hargeisa have initiated discussions aimed at establishing a strategic partnership focused on advancing e-learning, digital transformation and innovative academic programmes.

The discussions took place during a consultative meeting hosted at OUK, where officials from both institutions explored areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening higher education delivery across the region.

The University of Hargeisa delegation praised OUK for its growing reputation in digital learning and innovation, saying the proposed partnership presents an opportunity for knowledge exchange and institutional growth.

Among the key areas identified for collaboration are capacity building, joint academic programmes, collaborative research and innovation, mentorship and supervision of postgraduate students, co-marketing of academic programmes and virtual co-teaching initiatives.

The officials from both universities said the partnership is expected to enhance institutional capacities, widen access to quality higher education and promote technology-driven learning models in Africa’s evolving education sector.

The collaboration also aligns with broader continental efforts to integrate digital technologies into education systems and expand flexible learning opportunities for students.

The visiting delegation from the University of Hargeisa included Dr. Khalid Ahmed Abdi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Partnerships, Awil Ahmed, Director of Communications and ICT, Mustafe, Director of Library Services and Abdiqathar Rashid from Partnerships and External Relations.

Further engagements are expected as the two institutions move towards formalising the partnership framework and implementing the agreed areas of cooperation.
