Homabay County Governor Gladys Wanga has congratulated Nyamira Girls on emerging as the East Africa hockey champions.
Wanga said that success was a clear indication of how important talent was among youngsters and how it needed to be nurtured.
“The win of your school in the East African Hockey Championship is a win for the entire nation.” She said.
The Governor lauded the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSA)for coordinating the school games very well enabling students to participate in international competitions.

According to Nyamira Girls Hockey team Head Coach Mr. Kivai, the march between Nyamira and Kakungulu Memorial from Uganda was so tough but the girls kept the team spirit up to win 2-0 against their competitors.
Talking to education news on the phone, the excited coach said he believed in his team, and with determination and team spirit they went with the intention of winning the international trophy.
He narrated how the vehement prowess exhibited by Jacinter Opondo propelled Nyamira to glory in Rwanda.
On his Facebook account, Siaya governor James Orengo congratulated the team.
