Parents have been urged to take maximum care of their children, especially during the long school holiday and rainy season, to avoid preventable dangers.
The call was made by Bogeka Ward MCA Richmond Manani after learning about the death of a Grade 7 pupil at Nyabururu Comprehensive School.
Pupil's body discovered near river
According to the pupil's parents, he went missing from their home before his body was found on Saturday afternoon along the banks of River Nyakomisaro in Kisii County.
The death was reported at Nyanchwa Police Station, whose officers took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as police investigations continued.
According to the preliminary police information cited by the reporter, the body had no visible physical injuries or marks, and police were awaiting the postmortem report to establish the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.
The parents of the deceased also called on fellow parents to be vigilant, warning of other dangers facing school-going children during the holidays, such as kidnapping, drug and substance abuse, and irresponsible sexual behaviour.
They noted that such dangers not only endanger children's lives but also have serious negative effects on their education and future.
