Narok County marks Global Handwashing Day at Olopito Comprehensive School

The Narok County Department of Public Health and Sanitation has marked this year's Global Handwashing Day with a two-day event held at Narok County Referral Hospital and Olopito Comprehensive School.

The celebrations brought together health officials, teachers, pupils and members of the community to sensitise the public on the importance of handwashing with soap.

This year's theme, "Be a Handwashing Hero," aims to raise awareness and mobilise communities around handwashing as a simple, affordable and life-saving habit.

Handwashing key to preventing infections

According to the department, proper handwashing with soap is one of the most effective ways of preventing respiratory and diarrhoeal infections, especially among school-going children.

Health officials demonstrated correct handwashing steps and sensitised learners on critical times to wash their hands, including before eating, after using the toilet and after playing.
