The management of Namagara Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Senior School is optimistic about retaining its top position in Kakamega North Sub-county as the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations approach.

Speaking to parents during the institution's prayer day, the management, led by Principal Judith Luvaha, announced that it had put in place the necessary measures to retain the school's first position in the sub-county rankings.

The school has 255 candidates registered for the 2026 KCSE examinations, although two are reportedly still absent from school.

The principal emphasised the importance of prayer for the candidates, saying it encourages and motivates them as they prepare to sit their final examinations.

She lauded the community's unwavering support, saying parents had realised that the school had the potential to produce university-bound candidates and compete effectively with more established institutions within the sub-county.

School celebrates improved KCSE performance

The emerging academic powerhouse, which topped the 2025 KCSE examinations in Kakamega North Sub-county, has carved out a niche for itself, with enrolment rising.

The 2025 results surpassed the school's target mean score of 7.00, with 179 candidates attaining grades qualifying them for direct university entry.

“The academic pecking order in Kakamega North has been shaken after Seventh-day Adventist (SDA)-sponsored Namagara Secondary School shot to the top of the 2025 KCSE rankings,” said one parent.

The Malava-based mixed day school posted an impressive mean score of 7.4231, up from 6.7608 in 2024, overtaking its rivals to become the sub-county's top performer.

Located in Manda Shivanga Ward, the school has consistently featured among the top 10 schools for years, but its latest performance marked a historic breakthrough.

The principal attributed the success to teamwork and dedication among teachers, parents, the Board of Management and support staff.

She said they were working around the clock to remain at the top and maintain the record-breaking achievement.

“We are working tirelessly to see to it that we again top in this year's final examinations, as we have the potential,” she said.

Principal calls for continued parental support

In the 2025 KCSE examinations, the school recorded nine B+, 40 B, 61 B-, 69 C+, 42 C, 12 C- and one D+, with an additional 42 candidates qualifying for diploma courses. Science subjects and Mathematics played a vital role in boosting the mean score.

Top-performing subjects included Agriculture (10.624), Business Studies (10.119), Geography (9.729) and French (8.375), while Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Kiswahili averaged between C and C+.

Luvaha said the prayer day was important because candidates needed spiritual guidance ahead of the examinations.

She called on parents to continue supporting school programmes to sustain the institution's academic progress.

“It is now obvious that our parents have much confidence in us after they realised that we were not just any other community school at all and have come out to fully support the school to grow,” she said.
